Welcome to Windsor, California

Windsor is Sonoma County's fourth largest town, with a population of approximately 25,000. The town is in close proximity to many wineries and state parks. Windsor received its name in 1855 from one of its settlers, Hiram Lewis, a Pony Express rider. The area's gorgeous hills and plains reminded Lewis of the countryside surrounding Windsor Castle in his native England, hence the name "Windsor." Windsor did not actually become an incorporated town until 1992.
